Abide:
Finding Meaning in Jesus

Sunday, March 9

What gives you meaning in life? A Pew Study found that for a majority of Americans, their family gives them the most meaning in their life. Religion/spirituality is a close second. Often times, our meaning in life can be shaken when a career ends, when our children move out of the house, when we can no longer do the things that bring joy or when we feel stuck in a rut.

Countless books have been written on finding meaning in life. In 1946, Victor Frankl wrote Man's Search for Meaning, detailing his experiences in a Nazi concentration camp. He concluded that we find meaning in one of three ways: having tasks to complete, caring for another person or enduring suffering with dignity. Maybe you would add more ways of finding meaning to his list.

In 2 Corinthians, Paul writes to a group of believers that he had communicated with more than any other group. In his letter, Paul writes that both joy and suffering highlight a dependence on Christ. In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul speaks to this tension that we were created for and long for eternity, yet we're constrained by these earthly bodies that we live in.

I totally believe that and feel in my heart that there's more than just this life. But there's also the reality that life can feel like a grind sometimes. There are seasons where we struggle to find meaning (either in what we're doing or what's been forced upon us). How do we find meaning and maybe more importantly, how do we hold on to it?

I hope you'll be able to join me this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:45 am as we dive in to see how abiding in Jesus brings meaning in life.

March Ministry Spotlight: Christian Veterinary Mission

CVM is a non-profit organization that uses veterinary care to reach underdeveloped communities with the love of Christ by caring for their animals. For most of these communities, their livestock plays a central role in their livelihood. By providing care to these communities, CVM is able to build relationships with people and ultimately share the Gospel.

Short-Term Missions

CVM sends teams of veterinary professionals and students on short-term trips year-round to use their veterinary skills for God’s glory. Whether it is by performing spays and neuters, leading devotions with a team, or performing vaccinations, short-term volunteers are able to help others learn how to take care of their animals and share Christ’s love.

Long-Term Missions

CVM has been sending veterinary professionals and their families to serve long-term around the world since 1981. From rural community development to training among the nation’s most educated at university veterinary schools, CVM staff use their skills to train others how to be better stewards of the animals God has given them and spread the gospel.
