A Longing For Love

Sunday, December 22

A 2022 survey found that when it comes to communicating an "I love you" in a relationship, men are more quick to offer that sentiment. On average, it will take 108 days (about 4 months) for a significant other to communicate an "I love you." Love is a wonderful thing and of all the emotions and feelings that we navigate during Advent & Christmas, there is one that we would do well to focus on: Love has come to us!

I came across the poem In The Darkest Hour by Madeleine L’Engle and wanted to share with you. It's the last line in her poem that pulls at my heart and reminds me that God didn't need 108 days to decide if He loved me or not, He has always loved me - and He has always loved you.

It was a time like this,
war & tumult of war,
a horror in the air.
Hungry yawned the abyss –
and yet there came the star and the child most wonderfully there.

It was a time like this
of fear & lust for power,
license & greed and blight –
and yet the Prince of bliss came into the darkest hour
in quiet & silent light.

And in a time like this
how celebrate His birth
when all things fall apart?
Ah! Wonderful it is
with no room on the earth
the stable is our heart.

The stable is our heart. God in Jesus continues to come for us because He loves us. Whether you're longing for love or feel that you have all the love you need, Christmas isn't Christmas without realizing that Jesus has come for us.

I hope to see you this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:45 am as we celebrate the 4th Sunday of Advent with a focus on love.
