Abide:
Finding Truth in Jesus

Sunday, March 16

The American Worldview Inventory, a survey conducted by the Barna group found that 54% of Americans embrace the postmodern idea that all truth is subjective and that there are no moral absolutes. In commenting on the results, George Barna provided this statement: “We’re just at a place in our country’s history now where that’s the default view. Most people would say all truth is subjective and there’s no kind of objective truth based on an external standard. They would say they’re the standard that determines what truth is.”

I don't know if you're shocked by those statistics, but for me, they're both alarming and discouraging. The idea of truth being subjective touches every area of our lives. For me, it brings up a question of what motivates us to create our own standard of truth? Is it born out of convenience, selfishness, how we were raised, or our own moral framework?

If we're followers of Jesus and have submitted to His kingship, we have to resist determining our own standards of truth. In 1 Timothy 6, Paul confronts the presence of false teachers and their motivation for subjective truth. When we choose to abide in Jesus, we don't have to worry about shifting our truth based on what's happening around us.

I hope you'll be able to join me this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:45 am as we continue our teaching series by looking at how Jesus is the standard for truth - and how that truth can set us free.

March Ministry Spotlight: Christian Veterinary Mission

CVM is a non-profit organization that uses veterinary care to reach underdeveloped communities with the love of Christ by caring for their animals. For most of these communities, their livestock plays a central role in their livelihood. By providing care to these communities, CVM is able to build relationships with people and ultimately share the Gospel.

Short-Term Missions

CVM sends teams of veterinary professionals and students on short-term trips year-round to use their veterinary skills for God’s glory. Whether it is by performing spays and neuters, leading devotions with a team, or performing vaccinations, short-term volunteers are able to help others learn how to take care of their animals and share Christ’s love.

Long-Term Missions

CVM has been sending veterinary professionals and their families to serve long-term around the world since 1981. From rural community development to training among the nation’s most educated at university veterinary schools, CVM staff use their skills to train others how to be better stewards of the animals God has given them and spread the gospel.
